Giving feedback to Learners
How and when should I give feedback to learners ?
The basics of feedback, when to give it, how much to give and how to do it are based on personal style. The CORBS method has the basic principles of feedback:
- Clear- Know what you want to say and say it clearly and concisely
- Owned-Your feedback is your perception and not necessarily the ultimate truth. Use terms such as "I find" or "it seems" and not "you are"
- Regular-Give feedback regularly and as close to the event as possible
- Balanced-Feedback should not all be negative or positive
- Specific-Generalized feedback is difficult for the learner to use. Make sure feedback is related to a specific event or task
Quick Tips:
- When giving feedback there are 4 things to say:
- Continue
- Do More
- Do Less
- Stop
- Ask the learner what behaviour they would like feedback on

Possible Pitfalls:
- Giving feedback too long after the event
- Giving all positive or all negative feedback is not helpful
- Non-specific feedback (eg: "That was great")
